JOB REALITY

How Job Reality Works

Check the evidence behind a job posting before you spend time applying. Job Reality helps you spot signals worth reviewing and decide what to do next.

From posting URL to informed next step

  1. 1. Start with the job posting

Submit a job posting URL on the Job Reality website or use the extension while viewing a posting. The service evaluates the URL and the information it can access for that source.

  2. 2. Review available signals

Depending on the source, results may include a public job record, employer-site references, posting-age information, explicit closed or expired signals, and whether the same posting was observed before. Not every source exposes every signal.

  3. 3. Read the recommendation with the evidence

Job Reality organizes the available findings into APPLY, VERIFY, or SKIP. The recommendation is a decision aid—not a guarantee about an employer, vacancy, or outcome.

What the signals mean

Employer verification

A verification gap means the available information did not establish the employer as expected. It is a reason to check the employer’s official careers site and contact details—not proof by itself that a job is fraudulent.

Stale or aging posting

A posting that appears old may no longer be active, but some employers keep legitimate listings open for extended periods. Confirm the role on the employer’s official careers page when possible.

Previously observed posting

Job Reality can record that it has seen the same posting identity before. This is not the same as detecting similar jobs across employers or proving that a listing is a ghost job. Employers may legitimately refresh or repost a vacancy.

Source and evidence limitations

Job boards and applicant-tracking systems expose different amounts of information. If a source is unsupported or evidence is missing, Job Reality may have limited ability to evaluate that posting. Missing evidence does not prove a listing is fake—or legitimate.

How to interpret APPLY, VERIFY, and SKIP

  • APPLY: The evidence currently available supports considering the application. It is not a guarantee of legitimacy.
  • VERIFY: Check important details independently before proceeding; evidence may be incomplete or uncertain.
  • SKIP: The available signals suggest the posting may not be worth pursuing. Review the stated reasons before deciding.

What Job Reality cannot promise

No automated check can guarantee that every job is real, detect every scam, or confirm that a vacancy is still open at the moment you apply. Use the evidence as a decision aid. Never pay an employer to obtain a job, and independently verify unexpected requests for money or sensitive information.
